Trump’s Tariff Turmoil

The U.S. Supreme Court have just ruled Trump’s recent tariff program to be illegal under the IEEPA (International Emergency Economic Powers Act) due to unclear congress authority who state tariff powers belong them. Trump responded immediately calling it ‘deeply disappointing’ and exaggerated how he was ashamed of Congress members courage. Which can be understanding considering the according U.S. Treasury data suggesting a totalled $287 billion in 2025 from custom duties. Trump later moved back fast, introducing a new set of tariffs from Feb 24th (under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974) which allows up to a 15% temporary tariff for 150 days without Congress approval - these cover approximately $1.2 trillion of annual imports. It is not all positive however with backlash and concern from many key trading partners including the EU, UK and China who have threatened to impose countermeasures as a response. Legal actions have also taken place from giants such as FedEx who recently filed a lawsuit over tariff refunds.
European Union Fails Again

The European Union fails to agree to adopt a new sanctions package against Russia ahead of the fourth anniversary of the Russia-Ukrainian war. The package was blocked after a meeting in Brussels to which Hungary vetoed the proposal after worries over energy supplies into the nation. Budapest claims deliberate delay to oil transit repairs and during blocked a €90 billion loan to Ukraine. Slovakia also opposed the proposal to increase economic pressure on Moscow; questioning the validity of the EU and its members commitments.
Mexico’s in House Problems

Mexico sparks internal debate after a successful military operation lead to the killing of a Top Drug Lord (Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes/ “El Mencho”) who led the CJNG. The operation occurred in Jalisco after years of pursuit and longstanding cartel violence. Since, coordinated attacks have occured such as roadblocks and the burning of vehicles leading to the deaths of at least 25 members of the National Guard who’m have been deployed amid the chaos. At current Mexico have shut schools temporarily whilst the president has praised and defended the actions of the military. Foreign governments have warned tourists to stay alert.
Zelenskyy Pleads

Zelenskyy (Ukraine’s president) has took to Donald Trump to ask him to see through Russia’s “games” of delay in negations and attempts to divide Western allies. The Ukrainian president’s speech reminded listeners that Ukraine's sovereignty will not be lost in negotiations and that Ukraine stands strong morally evening taunting Putin due to their lack of success. However also called upon the EU to implement a €90 billion support package aswell as the presidents urge to join the European Union requesting a clear roadmap to be set out in place. As the conflict continues in Eastern Europe negotiations do still take place however see little progress such as shown in recent talks in Geneva which involved the U.S. but saw rejections from Zelenskyy over territorial guarantees.
Starmer’s Last Straw

Recent controversy surrounding kier Starmer and his appointment of Peter Mandelson who’m was found to be linked to the Jeffery Epstein files. Police have since arrested Mandelson after Starmer quotes a “betray[al]” by him. However claims don’t stop there with some suggesting Starmer was aware of the reports surrounding the connection. Other political parties have responded to the news with strong criticism such as the Conservatives Kemi Badenoch who argues ity weakens public trust, many have asked for Starmer’s resignation since such as The Green Party who publicly mentioned the “catastrophic level of misjudgment” from the UK Prime Minister. Starmer hit back strong at The Greens however over their proposed drug policies calling Polanski’s party “high on drugs, soft on Putin” mentioning also their other reckless policies which would damage the United Kingdom if they ever got in.
