The U.S. Supreme Court have just ruled Trump’s recent tariff program to be illegal under the IEEPA (International Emergency Economic Powers Act) due to unclear congress authority who state tariff powers belong them. Trump responded immediately calling it ‘deeply disappointing’ and exaggerated how he was ashamed of Congress members courage. Which can be understanding considering the according U.S. Treasury data suggesting a totalled $287 billion in 2025 from custom duties. Trump later moved back fast, introducing a new set of tariffs from Feb 24th (under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974) which allows up to a 15% temporary tariff for 150 days without Congress approval - these cover approximately $1.2 trillion of annual imports. It is not all positive however with backlash and concern from many key trading partners including the EU, UK and China who have threatened to impose countermeasures as a response. Legal actions have also taken place from giants such as FedEx who recently filed a lawsuit over tariff refunds.
